Obituary

Richard Allen "Rick" Frawley , age 82 passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a brief illness from heart surgery. Born July 20, 1943 in Elwood to Thomas M. and Iinine F. "Fern" (Evans) Frawley, Sr., Rick lived every day exactly as he pleased—loud, proud, and full of life.  A 1961 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, Rick served his country in the United States Army before embarking on a colorful career that took him wherever adventure called. A jack-of-all-trades, he worked as a contractor installing windows and siding, but it was his years as a taxi driver in Ohio during the 1970s and 80s that gave him the best stories—the kind that would have you laughing until your sides hurt.

Rick was a people person through and through. He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't bought a round for yet. The taverns were his second home, where he held court as the undisputed King of Karaoke, belting out tunes with the confidence of a man who knew how to have a good time. He loved the thrill of the gamble—the lottery, the casino, but especially the horse races, where he'd put his money down with the certainty of a man who believed luck was always on his side.  Behind the big personality was a sharp mind. Rick could beat anyone at Jeopardy without breaking a sweat, devoured books like they were going out of style, and worked through puzzle books with the focus of a scholar. He was intelligent, opinionated, and never afraid to tell you exactly what he thought—usually with a joke that left you shaking your head and smiling.

Every morning, Rick made sure Elwood knew he was alive and kicking, throwing open his door and shouting, "Good Morning, Elwood!" to anyone within earshot. It was his way of saying he was here, he mattered, and he was going to make the most of another day.  Rick Frawley lived life on his terms, filled it with laughter, friendship, and unforgettable moments. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Rick is survived by twin sons, Andrew J. "Andy" Frawley (Jacklyn Davis) of Evansville, and Samuel R. "Sam" Frawley (Maggy Lewis) of Frankton; son, Kevin Therring of Anderson; daughter, Gigi Gordon of Ohio; sister, Joby Leisure of Elwood; 2 grandchildren, Reece A. Frawley, and Calvin J. Frawley; one grandchild expected in July; special friends, Josh (Brandon) Deckard of Elwood, Bobby Lovell of Elwood, Bill Kelly of Elwood, and many more; and several nieces and nephews.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas M. "Tom" Frawley, Jr; and sister, Teresa M. Frawley.

Cremation will take place and the family will have a celebration of life at a later date.  Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Rick's arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions may be made to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.  Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at copherfeslermay.com.
