Obituary

Richard E. "Dick" Reynolds , age 73 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully and joined his wife in Heaven on Sunday, October 24, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer.  He was born December 20, 1947 in Elwood, the son of Wilford "Skillet" and Wilma Jean (Hankley) Reynolds.  Dick was a 1966 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and later proudly answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He received a Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice.  Dick married the love of his life, Dixie J. Church on October 27, 1973, and they shared nearly 38 years of marriage together before her passing in 2011.  Dick worked in production at Steel Parts Corporation in Tipton for 32 years and retired in 2005.

He was a devoted member of East Main Street Christian Church where he formerly served as a deacon; Quincy Masonic Lodge #230; and the Elwood Kiwanis Club.  Dick was known as a longtime volunteer at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood where he enjoyed socializing with patients and visitors.  Many people knew him as the "Tootsie Roll Man" for his kindness in handing out candy to people he met.  He formerly enjoyed fishing and liked to listen to 1950's and 1960's music.  More than anything, Dick was devoted to his family and loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren.  His family finds comfort knowing that he is reunited with Dixie in Heaven.

Dick's family includes 4 children, Richard M. (Brenda) Reynolds of Copperas Cove, TX, Robert T. (Tina) Reynolds of Falls Church, VA, Sarah J. (Chad) McCorkle of Elwood, and Aaron Reynolds of Elwood; 3 sisters, Marcie (Jim) Hester of Elwood, Kathy (Bill) Waymire of Elwood, and Gloria Bright of Whiteland; 5 grandchildren, Karah McCorkle (Justin Lamey), Alyson Reynolds, Nolan Reynolds, Michael Reynolds, and Jeremiah Reynolds; and several nieces and nephews.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie Reynolds; and brother, Tom Reynolds.

A funeral service celebrating Dick's life and legacy will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Elwood V.F.W. honor guard.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home and will include a Masonic memorial service at 7:00 pm.  Health precautions for the safety of the family and all visitors are much appreciated.  Memorial contributions are suggested to East Main Street Christian Church.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
