Obituary

Rebecca L. "Becky" Alvey, age 72 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Community Parkview Care Center following a brief illness.  She was born September 16, 1945 in Elwood, the daughter of Ralph R. and Ruth E. (McMinn) Hartsock.  Becky was a 1963 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.  She was employed as a Personnel Clerk for the Department of Defense at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center for 27½ years, and she retired in 1996.  She also formerly worked at J. Lewis Small Company in Elwood for 7 years.  Becky married the love of her life, Stanley G. Alvey, on February 16, 1974, and they shared over 44 years of marriage together.  Becky loved the Lord and had a deep faith which was strengthened with daily devotions.  She was a former member of the Charity Inn Church in Elwood which Stan pastored for several years.  Currently, Becky attended the Zion Chapel Church in Elwood.  Becky formerly enjoyed fishing and camping with her family.  She was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and was also known for her love of cats.  More than anything, Becky loved her family very much and simply loved everyone around her - never knowing a stranger.  Her family finds great comfort knowing that their earthly loss is Heaven's gain.

Becky's family legacy includes her husband, Stan Alvey of Elwood; 4 children, Christy (husband Gary Boyland, Mary (husband Chris) Israel, James "Jim" (wife Tammy) White, and Jeff (wife Tiffany) Alvey all of Elwood; 5 siblings, Robert (wife Fran) Hartsock of Sweet Home, OR, William (wife Joyce) Hartsock of Elwood, Thomas Hartsock of Sweet Home, OR, Nancy Alvey of Williston, FL, and Patricia Paschall of Elwood; sister-in-law, Anita Hartsock of Lebanon; 7 grandchildren, Andy (wife Valerie) Boyland, Rev. Greg (wife Caitlin) Boyland, Ashley Sorg, Jessica (husband C.J.) Krez, Katie Israel (Eli), Emma Alvey, Luke Alvey;  7 great-grandchildren, Kenzi Boyland, Isabelle Boyland, Maggie Boyland, Tori Sheppard, Wes Sorg, Noah Sorg, Karoline Sorg, and another expected in January, Lillian Scott; longtime best friend, Linda Murray of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.  Becky was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Hartsock; and father-in-law, Morris Alvey.

A funeral service celebrating Becky's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with her grandson, Rev. Greg Boyland officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry through the funeral home.  Online condolences to the family may be expressed at copherfeslermay.com.
