Raymond P. Call, age 90, a lifelong resident of Elwood, died peacefully at his home on Friday, January 18, 2013 following an extended battle with kidney failure and dialysis. He was born on August 17, 1922 in Elwood, the son of Lawrence and Laura (Closser) Call. Ray was a 1941 graduate of Elwood High School, and later served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He married C. Lorene Shepherd on December 3, 1967. He worked as a tool maker at Continental Can Corporation in Elwood for over 30 years and retired in 1983. Ray was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood, and was a member and past Worshipful Master of the Quincy Masonic Lodge in Elwood. He was also a member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite Indianapolis Valley, Madison County Scottish Rite, Indiana Priory #8 K.Y.C.H., Order of Eastern Star, the American Legion, and the Elwood Elks Lodge #368. Ray enjoyed woodworking, taking care of his yard; and was well-known as a regular patron of Friendly's Restaurant in Elwood.
Ray's family includes his wife of over 45 years, C. Lorene Call of Elwood; step-daughter, Janice Mott of Vincennes; sister, Mary Savage of Elwood; brother, Row Call of Livonia, MI; 2 grandchildren, Curtis (wife Sarah) Page and Deidre (husband Brian) Martin; 2 great-grandchildren, Lindsay (husband Kyle) Catt and Page Martin; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Addison Catt and Brinley Jo Catt; sister-in-law, Mary Shepherd of Linton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Hubert Call, Marvin Call, and Ralph Call.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jim Nickles of the Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. The U.S. Military and Elwood V.F.W. will conduct military honors at the mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, and will include a Masonic Lodge Memorial at 6:00 PM.
