Ralph E. Maley, age 88 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Premier Sheridan Rehabilitation Center in Sheridan following a brief illness, but a long, well-lived life. He was born June 6, 1928 in Elwood, the son of Haman and Margaret (Guard) Maley. He retired in May of 1991 from the Indianapolis Star Newspapers Co. where he had worked for more than 35 years as a newspaper printer and in the composing department. Ralph was a 1946 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and later served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He married Dolores A. Watson on June 14, 1953 and they shared more than 63 years of marriage. Ralph was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood; a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge # 368; and a member of the Elwood Conservation Club. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts football fan, loved golfing, and especially enjoyed eating and dining out. He and Dolores enjoyed traveling and took many memorable trips in both the United States and overseas. Ralph's favorite place to vacation was Gatlinburg, TN. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ralph's family includes his wife of 63 years, Dolores Maley of Elwood; daughter, Kimberly (husband Steve) Snipes of Sheridan; brother, Gene (wife Janet) Maley of Elwood; 6 nieces; 2 nephews; and several special "grand-puppies". He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Jeffrey Brewer.
A graveside service celebrating Ralph's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum with Rev. Mary Hofer officiating. The U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard will provide military honors at the mausoleum. Entombment will follow the service in the mausoleum. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
