Booker
Sep 19, 1971 — Dec 30, 2024
Rae Anne Booker , age 53 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024 in Muncie following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 19, 1971 in Anderson, the daughter of Dallas E. Curtis and Anne Rae (Michael). Rae Anne was recently a private Home Health Aide for several years and enjoyed caring for others. She also formerly worked as a Bartender for the Elwood Elks Lodge for many years where she was a member. She was a 1989 graduate of Elwood Community High School where she was an accomplished athlete in volleyball, softball, and track. Rae Anne held a track record at Elwood High School for over 30 years. She attended Anderson University and later cosmetology school to become a nail technician.
Rae Anne had a bright and lively presence everywhere she went, and she never knew a stranger. It was remarkable how she kept a positive attitude throughout her illness. She was known for greeting everyone with her signature smile and encouraging words. Rae Anne cherished time spent with her family, and especially loved nurturing her three beloved grandchildren. In her free time, she loved caring for her yard, working in her garden and flowers, and cooking delicious meals for her family. Rae Anne also enjoyed listening to music and cheering on her favorite sports teams, I.U. and the Chicago Cubs. Her life has left an impact that will never be forgotten, but her legacy lives on in all her family.
Rae Anne's family includes her father, Dallas (Diane) Curtis of Muncie; mother and step-father, Anne Rae (Gerald) Goudy of Wilkinson; 3 daughters, Jessica (Jonathan) Mangrum of Anderson, Erica Harpel of Indianapolis, and Emily Booker (Drew Leisure) of Elwood; 3 grandchildren, Emit Mangrum, Amari Mangrum, and Landry Leisure; longtime friend, Travis Huffman of Rochester; and 3 step-siblings, Trey Gott, Julie McCutchen, and J.R. Turner. Rae Anne was preceded in death by her step-father, Stephen Dunn; paternal grandparents, Thomas & Elois Curtis; and maternal grandparents, Marvin & Bernell Michael.
A funeral celebrating Rae Anne's life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home with family friend, Rich Leavell, officiating.
