Obituary

Phyllis E. Watson , age 99 of Daleville, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 at Compass Pointe Masonic Home in Franklin after a long, full life.  She was born Dec. 23, 1924 in Elwood, the daughter of Floyd C. and Daisy L. (Frye) Etchison.  Phyllis was a 1943 graduate of Frankton High School.  She married Richard C. "Red" Watson on Nov. 28, 1948, and they shared over 61 years of marriage together before his passing in 2010.  Phyllis retired in 1980 from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson where she worked in the accounting and payroll department for 38 years.

Phyllis lived her long life to the fullest.  She and Richard enjoyed traveling and socializing in numerous civic organizations in the county.  Phyllis was a 50-year member of both the Lady Shriner's and the Lady Elks groups.  She was also a 50+ year member of the Daleville Chapter #568 Order of Eastern Star, the Delco Remy Fellowship Club, the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the American Business Women's Association (ABWA).  Phyllis and Richard traveled the world on several memorable trips including an African Safari.  She especially enjoyed dancing, spending time with good friends, and shopping.

Phyllis' family includes nieces and nephews, Richard (Linda) Watson of Daleville, Karla Hanel of Houston, Texas, Danny (Teresa) Watson of Columbus, Georgia, Kevin (Patty) Watson of Chesterfield, and Betty (Jim) Higgs of Anderson; several great nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend of over 50 years, Marilyn Scott.  Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard "Red" Watson; sister, Lavonne Fowler; and 2 nephews, Keith Fowler and Steve Watson.

Funeral services and visitation for Phyllis were all private on Saturday with family member, Randy Shepherd officiating.  Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Elwood beside her husband.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Online condolences may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
