Phyllis S. Jarrett , age 93 and a lifelong resident of Elwood and Tipton County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at Ascension-St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a long, full life. She was born June 14, 1930 in Tipton County, the daughter of Farley and Doneta (McCoy) Smith. Phyllis was a 1948 graduate of Windfall High School before attending Ball State University for two years. She married Lindell L. Jarrett on Jan. 20, 1951, and they shared over 63 years of marriage together before his passing in 2014.
Phyllis was the Secretary/Treasurer of Lindell Jarrett Farms, Inc. and was still actively managing the business. She was devoted to her family and their farming business in every way. Phyllis was a longtime member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years and was in the handbell choir. She also attended East Main Street Christian Church in recent years. Phyllis was formerly involved teaching reading in Rigdon and also enjoyed painting. Her family is comforted knowing she has been reunited with Lindell in Heaven.
Phyllis' family includes 2 children, Julia Jarrett of Elwood and Mark (wife Karen) Jarrett of Elwood; 4 grandchildren, Amy Hall (wife Rebecca Davenport) of Holland, MI, Ashley Hall (husband Ajfan Sujau) of Maldives Islands, Lindsay (husband Jaymey) Hardin of Franklin, TN, and Dr. Angela (husband Michael) Hilyar of Bellingham, WA; 2 great-grandchildren, Caleb Sexton and Hadley Hilyar; and 3 nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lindell Jarrett; and sister, Bonnie Wampler.
A memorial service celebrating her life and legacy will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Matthew Seibel officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Burial took place in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Ark Christian Camp in Converse. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and condolences may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
