Obituary

Phillip E. Fettig , age 89 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Harbour Manor Health & Living after a long, blessed life.  He was born July 19, 1936 in Elwood, the 4th child of George T. and Charlotte A. (Sharp) Fettig who had 8 children.  Phil was a 1954 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.  He attended both Ball State University and Indiana Tech for secondary education.  Phil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  He married the love of his life, Page Ann Aldridge on August 2, 1958, and they shared over 65 years of marriage together before her passing in 2024.  Phil worked early in life with his father and several family members as Vice-President of Fettig Canning Company for 30 years - a business with a long history in the Elwood Community.  Phil later founded Kadet Products, Inc. in Elwood which continues to thrive today after 41 continuous years.  He was the patriarch of not only his business, but also of his large family who looked to him often for wisdom and direction.  Phil had a lifelong passion for inventing and developing new things, processes, and products which served him well in business.

Phil was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood, and his faith was privately an important aspect of his life.  He attended St. Joseph School through the 10th grade before transitioning to Willkie High School.  Phil enjoyed simple pleasures in life – fishing with his grandchildren, pheasant hunting, and watching his grandkids play sports with Page Ann.  He was a life member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368.  He loved nothing more than spending an afternoon watching Notre Dame football or Purdue basketball, and he was proud to see many family members graduate from Purdue University.  Phil and Page were former members of the Elwood Country Club near their home and especially enjoyed traveling for many years in the U.S. and Europe.  On one memorable trip, they flew to Europe on the Concord and returned on the S.S. Queen Elizabeth.  Phil's family will always remember him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He and Page have been beautifully reunited in Heaven.

Phil's family legacy includes 4 children, Teresa (Tim) Jones of Noblesville, Dana (Kreig) Kleinbub of Elwood, Eric (Angie) Fettig of Cicero, and Kristi (Jeff) Whitinger of Bremen; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tyler) Painter, Laura (Bryan) Brearley, Tom (Sarah) Jones, Brant (Joanne) Fettig, Adam (Sara) Fettig, Isaac (Maggie) Fettig, Ellen (Nick) Appicelli, Mikaela (Austin) Gantzert, and Maggie (Matt) Carey; 12 great-grandchildren, Rhys, Ford, Thomas, Penelope, Aubrie, Emma, Rhett, Charlotte, Henry, Gianna, Eleanor, and Claire expected soon; siblings, Ronald P. Fettig of Cincinnati, OH and Peter A. (Ann) Fettig of Venice, FL; 3 sisters-in-law, Ann Fettig of Brownsburg, Jan Fettig of St. Louis, MO, and Carolyn (Lonnie) Watson of Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.  Phil was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings, Lawrence T. Fettig, James E. Fettig, George "Mike" Fettig, Beverly Ramseyer, and Stephen Fettig.

A funeral mass will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at St. Joseph Church in Elwood with Father Adam Mauman officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W.
