Obituary

Penelope "Penny" Patton-Thomas , 78, of Alexandria, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026 at Community Hospital in Anderson, following a brief illness. Born on April 1, 1948, in Elwood to Gerald Dwight and Myrtle "Maxine" (Burton) Patton, Penny's life was a tapestry of kindness and unforgettable moments. She attended Elwood Schools and went on to dedicate over 30 years to Firestone, where her hard work inspired those around her. A proud member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge and the Frankton American Legion, Penny's friendships spanned generations.

Penny's passion for life showed in everything she did—from cheering for her beloved Indianapolis Colts, to curating her whimsical collection of salt and pepper shakers—treasures her family will always cherish. Her love for collecting Native American items, tending her vibrant flower garden, and watching the birds in her yard reflected her gentle and curious nature. Penny's dogs were her loyal companions, always at her side.  Above all, Penny embraced life fully and treasured every moment spent with her family and friends. Her laughter, generosity, and zest for living will forever inspire all who were lucky enough to know her.

Penny is survived by 3 children, Tammy (John) Stinson of Elwood, Willard Lindsay, Jr. (Ashley Stohl) of Elwood, and Eddy (Sheree) Lindsay of Elwood;  significant other, Frank Velasquez of Alexandria; 3 sisters, Joann Kruse, Karen Leisure, and Etta Mae Shallenberger; son-in-law, James Martin; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Penny is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Gerald Patton, and Roland Patton; 3 sisters, Sue Miller, Ramona Patton, and Pam Harless; daughter, Tina Martin; and 2 special fur babies, Cherokee, and Cheyenne.

Penny's wishes were to be cremated.  A celebration of Penny's life hosted by her family will take place at 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Frankton American Legion.  Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to assist the family during these difficult times.  Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at copherfeslermay.com.
