Obituary

Peggy Lou Hinds , age 83 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness.  She was born August 1, 1938 in Elwood, the daughter of Charles B. and Dorothy May (Gritton) Hinds.  Peggy was a 1956 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.  She married her soulmate, Maurice E. "Maury" Hinds, on March 14, 1959, and they shared more than 62 years of marriage together.  Peggy was a devoted homemaker and farmwife all of her life, and she also worked for 16 years in the office of Edgewood Elementary School in Elwood.  She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood.  Peggy was a devoted member of Landon Guild since 1972, and had served as President, Vice-President, and most recently Secretary of the organization.  She was a member of the Indiana Association of Educational Office Professionals (IAEOP).  Peggy especially enjoyed reading and working jigsaw puzzles.  She was well-known for sending hand-written thank-you cards and notes to family and friends regularly.  More than anything, Peggy loved to spend time with all her family.  She will be dearly missed.

Peggy's family includes her husband, Maury Hinds of Elwood; son, Jerry Lee (wife Cindy) Hinds of Morton, IL; daughter, Jo Ann Mounts of O'Fallon, MO; brother, Danny Joe (wife Kathy) Hinds of Muncie; 2 grandchildren, Kathleen Hinds of Morton, IL and Nicholas Scott (wife Kellye) Mounts of Redbud, IL; 2 great-grandchildren, Harper Renee Mounts and Hayden Jo Mounts; and 4 nieces, Wendy Beller, Lisa Summers, Stephanie Nicol, and Stacey Jo Fowler.  Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles "Roger" (and wife Carolyn) Hinds.

A memorial service celebrating Peggy's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with her brother, Danny Hinds, officiating. A brief visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.  Private burial will take place in Knox Chapel Cemetery in rural Fairmount.  Health precautions for the safety of the family and all visitors are greatly appreciated.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Landon Guild Sorority through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
