Peggy Jean Etchison , age 70 of Elwood, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis following a hard-fought struggle with numerous health complications. She was born April 2, 1948 in Elwood, the daughter of Frank and Jane Anne Preston. She attended Elwood schools and later received her GED. Peggy worked as a cashier for CVS Pharmacy in both Florida and Elwood, and she also formerly worked for Eckerd Drugs for several years. She married Don E. Etchison on July 5, 1985, and they shared 33 years together. She was baptized at East Main Street Christian Church where she formerly attended, and later attended Madison Christian Church in Frankton. Peggy enjoyed keeping herself busy with activities such as quilting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, computer games, and playing cards. She was a very social person, and never knew a stranger which helped her considerably in her job. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved dining out frequently. Peggy was an avid animal lover, and especially loved her dog, Skittles. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends who loved her very much.
Peggy Jean's family includes husband, Don E. Etchison of Elwood; son, Bill (wife Tina) Sims of Elwood; 2 grandchildren, Derek Sims and Delani Sims, both of Elwood; sister, Mary Fred of Elwood, brother, Jack (wife Marilyn) Preston of Boca Raton, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara Jane Sims who died at birth; and her brother, Jim Preston.
A memorial service celebrating Peggy Jean's life will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 on Wednesday prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter through the funeral home. Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
