Pauline Marie Copeland, age 87 - a lifelong resident of Elwood, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a very sudden illness. She was born September 13, 1925 in Elwood, the daughter of John and Pauline (Ripperger) Manghelli. Pauline retired from Continental Can Company in Elwood in 1979 where she had worked in the business office for more than 30 years. She was a 1943 graduate of Elwood High School. Pauline married James Copeland in June of 1946. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood and a former member of Delta Theta Tau sorority. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and solving crossword puzzles. Pauline was an avid animal lover. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her family includes a daughter, Christine (husband Scott) Hellman of Frankton; son Mark (wife Kim) Copeland of Bellville; 2 foster sons, John (wife Becky) Talley of Fishers and Phil Talley of Fishers; 2 sisters, Rosanne Leisure of Jacksonville, FL and Genevieve Cox of Omaha, NE; brother, Tom Manghelli of Mississippi; 5 grandchildren, Jamie (wife Jackie) Cole, Andrea Bingham, Stephan Copeland, Katie Copeland, and Carrie Copeland; 4 great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Hiday, Jalen Cole, Jarrett Cole and Jalei Stansberry; and several nieces and nephews.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 46 years, James Copeland who died on January 24, 1993; brother, Bernard Manghelli; and sister, Dorothy "Dot" Collins.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be 9:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Church Building Fund or the Madison County Humane Society through the funeral home.
