Obituary

Paula S. Schwinn , age 81 and a lifelong resident of Elwood and Leisure, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following several health challenges and a 10-year journey on kidney dialysis.  She was born October 21, 1939 in Elwood, the daughter of Leon and Juanita (Runyan) Heston.  Paula was a 1958 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and later attended beauty college for one year.  She married her soulmate, Avery Schwinn on November 26, 1960, and they shared over 60 years of marriage together.  Paula was a devoted homemaker and farmwife who was absolutely dedicated to caring for her family.  She was a longtime member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure where she was formerly involved with the Ladies Aid.  She will be remembered for cooking delicious meals for her family and keeping a beautiful, well-maintained home.  Paula enjoyed nothing more than spending time at home with Avery.  She will be greatly missed.  Paula's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Fresenius Dialysis Clinic in Elwood who provided wonderful care to Paula and became part of her extended family over the last 10 years.

Paula's family includes her husband, Avery Schwinn of Elwood; 3 children, Kimberly (Charles) Nelson of Santa Rosa, CA, Kevin (Teri) Schwinn of Fairmount, and Rodney (Lisa) Schwinn of Summitville; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Nelson, Laura Nelson, Kyle (Becky) Schwinn, Laura Schwinn (Colby Hixson), Abbi (Brice) Moore, and Andrew Schwinn (fiancé Morgan Beeks); great-great grandson, Truitt Moore; and two brothers-in-law, Dewey (Kay) Schwinn of New Castle and Pete (Shirley) Schwinn of Elwood.  Paula was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dallas Heston.

A funeral service celebrating Paula's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Kent Stookey officiating.  Burial will follow in Forrestville Cemetery in rural Summitville.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Health precautions for the safety of the family and all visitors are much appreciated.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
