Obituary

Paul M. Gillam, age 81 of Alexandria, and formerly of Elwood passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Alexandria Care Center after an extended illness. He was born November 10, 1933 in Elwood the son of Bert L. and Rella O. Gillam. He was formerly employed at Airfoil Textron Corporation in Elwood where he worked as a production supervisor for more than 25 years. Later, he also worked in security for a manufacturing company out of state. He was a 1952 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and later served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Following his military service, he was married to Sharon Gillam for 33 years. Later, he married Carmen F. Howe on October 17, 1993. Paul was a devoted member and administrator of the Elwood Moose Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Elwood V.F.W. Post # 5782. Paul especially enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family.

Paul's family includes his wife of nearly 22 years, Carmen F. Gillam of Alexandria; son, Mark (wife Kathy) Gillam of Elwood; daughter, Lisa (husband Greg) Mick of Lexington, KY; 2 step-children, Mary Sirk of Alexandria and Delores (husband Richard) Howe of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Florence Heflin and Belva Drake; and great-grandson, Owen Riley King.

A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Stan Alvey officiating, and will conclude with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Military and Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard. Burial will take place at a later date in Forrestville Cemetery in Summitville. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.
