Patricia Ruth "Pat" Chaffin, age 86 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness. She was born February 20, 1930 in Elwood, the daughter of Jacob Robert and Cora Estelle (Hinshaw) Vautaw. Pat was a homemaker all of her life and also formerly worked as an antique dealer. She married Roy A. Chaffin on January 17, 1948 and they shared more than 68 years of marriage together. Pat enjoyed working puzzles; and reading the Kentucky Explorer publication, religious magazines, and all types of mystery books. She was an avid collector of Santa Claus memorabilia, antique glassware, and knowledgeable of St. Clair glass. She loved watching the Antiques Roadshow, and often knew the value of many items. Pat enjoyed cooking, traveling with Roy while he played bluegrass music around the area; and she was extremely devoted to her family.
Pat's family includes her husband of more than 68 years, Roy A. Chaffin of Elwood; 4 children, Roy A. "Timmy" Chaffin, Jr. of Gas City, Theresa E. (husband Brady) Deckard of Bradenton, FL, Mark W. Chaffin of Elwood, and James L. "Monty" (wife Tresa) Chaffin of Elwood; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, James "Ed" Vautaw and Robert Vautaw; and 2 sisters, Florence Bush and Betty Deck.
A funeral service celebrating Pat's life will be conducted at Noon on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor John Foster, a longtime family friend, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 AM to Noon on Thursday prior to the service at Copher-Fesler-May.
