Pamela J. Mort, age 66 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born August 1, 1949 in Elwood, the daughter of Lester G. and Laurabell (Smith) Cox. Pam was a dedicated and loving homemaker and mother. She was a 1967 graduate of Frankton High School, and later married the love of her life, Frederick R. Mort, Jr., on September 28, 1968. She was a member of New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Elwood and also attended East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood in recent years with her family. Pam was a Board member of Elwood Concerts in the Park, and was also active in the Elwood Community Service Club with Fred. She loved caring for her flowers and mowing her yard. More than anything, Pam was extremely devoted to caring for her grandchildren and family.
Pam's family and legacy includes her husband of more than 47 years, Frederick R. Mort, Jr. of Elwood; 2 daughters, Laurie DeLong of Elwood and Kim (husband Dan) Marley of Elwood; 9 grandchildren, Ashley (husband Jason) Leisure, Nicole (husband Chase) Colby, Gabrielle Meyer, Jasmine DeLong, Abigail Marley, Benjamin DeLong, Frederick DeLong, Isabelle Marley, and Danielle Marley; 6 great-grandchildren, Braxton Leisure, Braxton Mort, Rayana Leisure, Laurabell Mort, David and Isabella; 2 sisters-in-law, Carolyn (husband Dennis) Longnecker and Rhonda Jo (husband Mark) Sullivan; and nieces and nephews, Kelly (Jason) Ballman, Casey Longnecker, Mark (Trisha) Sullivan, and Amber Sullivan. Pam was preceded in death by her parents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services celebrating Pam's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 3 to 8 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
