Norman L. Erdman, age 83 of Elwood and a lifelong resident of Madison County, passed away early Monday, April 23, 2018 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following declining health. He was born September 28, 1934 in Anderson, the son of Roy and Emma (Williamson) Erdman. Norm was 1953 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and later proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He married the love of his life, Eva Faye Ebbert on July 18, 1959, and they shared over 58 years of marriage together. Norm worked in the Maintenance Department of Continental Can Corporation in Elwood for 38 years, and he retired in 1986. He formerly attended St. John Lutheran Church in Elwood. Norm enjoyed watching squirrels and birds in recent years, and always took great pride in caring for his home. He especially liked watching MASH and professional wrestling on television. Norm also enjoyed woodworking and watching college basketball games for many years. More than anything, Norm's family was the most important part of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Helm, Community Parkview Care Center, and St. Vincent Mercy Hospital for the outstanding care they provided to Norman during his illness.
Norm's family legacy includes his wife of 58 years, Eva F. (Ebbert) Erdman of Elwood; daughter, Debbie (husband Roger) Boruff; son, Mike (wife Patty) Erdman of Elwood; 4 grandchildren, Douglas (wife Morgan) Mitchell, Cristy Erdman (companion Heather), Nathan (wife Amanda) Boruff, and Derek (wife Katie) Boruff; 4 great-grandchildren, Brayton Mitchell, Jayden Brock, Savannah Boruff, and William Boruff. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Erdman; and sister, Betty Smith.
A funeral service celebrating Norman's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with a close family friend, Pastor Ella Nickles, officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery, and will include military honors by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday, April 20, 2018 prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
