Nora C. "Susie" Back, age 83 of Marion and former longtime resident of Elwood, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Colonial Oaks Healthcare in Marion after a long, well-lived life.  She was born August 28, 1933 in Wallingford, KY, the daughter of Carl L. & Iva G. (Gardner) Richie.  She married the love of her life, Henry "Harold" Back on April 1, 1949, and they shared over 53 years of marriage together before his passing in 2003.  Susie worked as a beautician for many years while caring for her family as a homemaker; and later in life worked as a nurse aide at Parkview Nursing Home in Elwood for several years.  She was a member of the Perkinsville Community Church, and formerly active in the Women's Club at the church.  After moving to Kentucky, she became a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church in Big Creek, Kentucky. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was devoted to her family and friends.

Susie's family includes 3 children, H. David (wife Margie) Back of Upland, Susan R. (husband Greg) Murphy of Elwood, and Rev. Mark S. (wife Jan) Back of Texas; sister, Helen R. (husband Amos) Bramel of Fleming, KY; 9 grandchildren, Carl David Back, Summer Back, Michaela Murphy, Brennan Murphy, Janna Back, Aaron Back, Stephen (wife Emily) Back, Isaac Back, and Shelby Back; 3 great-grandchildren, Elijah Back, Logan Back, and Kilyn Fights; several nieces and nephews including Linda Dillon and Jerry (wife Pat) Richie.

A funeral service celebrating Susie's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with her son, Rev. Mark Back, officiating.  Burial will follow in Carey Cemetery in Hamilton County.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
