Obituary

Nicholas F. "Nick" Wolff , age 78 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 surrounded by his family at home following a courageous battle with cancer.  This day was the 7-year anniversary of the loss of his beloved wife, Kathy.  Nick was born Sept. 27, 1945 in Elwood, the son of Herman Joseph James Peter and Catherine (Loar) Wolff.  His parents were the founders of the historic "Wolff's Bar & Restaurant" in Elwood.  Nick was a 1964 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood and later joined the Indiana National Guard.  He married the love of his life, Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Kiser on Nov. 26, 1966, and they shared over 50 years of marriage together until her passing in 2017.  Nick retired in 1997 from Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson where he worked in production for over 30 years.  He was a member of U.A.W. Local 663.  Nick also formerly owned and operated H & H Bike Shop on South 28th Street in Elwood for 3 years, and he drove a delivery truck for Bozell Industrial Products in Atlanta for several years during his retirement.  Nick was known for interesting and memorable discussions with everyone he met along his way.  He had a unique way of incorporating colorful language into nearly every conversation.

Nick spent countless hours restoring furniture, woodworking, and chip-carving in his garage which was his sanctuary while Kathy ran her sewing business.  He and Kathy were well-known in the community - appearing at numerous local sporting events and functions.  Nick enjoyed reading, and he would do anything to help his children and grandchildren.  After the loss of Kathy, Nick developed a love of cats which involved outstanding care and accommodations for them.  In recent years, he enjoyed daily adventures to Hembree Motors, Hardee's, and Lincoln Square.  Nick's greatest wish during his illness was that he would live to see his granddaughter get married, and he accomplished this special milestone last month.  All is well - Nick and Kathy are reunited, and the furniture in Heaven will never look better.

Nick's family includes two children, Shane (wife Amy) Wolff of Ft. Wayne, and Niki Fisher of Noblesville; 4 beloved grandchildren, Baylie (husband Riley) Wunder, Brendon Fisher, Josiah Wolff, and Matthias Wolff; 2 nephews, Marty (wife Hillary) Blake and Jeff (wife Valerie) VanDalsen and their families; 2 nieces, Kathleen Rider (and her children, Kayla and Josh) and Jaclyn Ruff (and her son Austin); sister-in-law, Pat VanDalsen of Niles, Michigan; and numerous close friends.  Nick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathy Wolff; and sister, Katrina Cook.

A funeral service celebrating Nick's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Nick's friend, Rich Leavell, officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.   Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
