Nelson Leroy Caldwell , age 81 of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 in Elwood unexpectedly.  He was born Aug. 29, 1943 in Commiskey, Indiana, the son of Lebus and Florence (Baker) Caldwell.  Nelson drove a semi-truck for Central Transport for 27 years until he retired in 1998.  He enjoyed being outdoors and watching all sports.  Nelson was a car fanatic, and collected and worked on numerous American made cars and trucks throughout his life.  He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.

Nelson's family includes 2 children, Phillip (wife Sossidy) Caldwell of Frankton, and Treasa (husband Jared) Lee of Sebring, FL; 3 siblings, Phillip Caldwell, Betty Horner, and Alonzo (wife Evelynn) Caldwell; 5 grandchildren, Steven Handley, Alex Handley, Chris Lovell, Phylissidy Caldwell, and Eric Caldwell; and several nieces and nephews.  Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Nelson Leroy Caldwell, Jr., and Eric Caldwell; and a cousin who was more like a brother growing up, Clayton Willoughby.
