Obituary

Nellie V. Johnson, age 95 of Elwood, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after a long and joy-filled life. She was born January 20, 1918 in Carroll County, Kentucky, the daughter of Neat and Nettie (Vandergriff) Roland. She retired in 1962 from Delco Remy Corporation in Anderson where she had worked in production for more than 16 years. Nellie married Fredrick T. Johnson on April 3, 1943, and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage. She was a devoted member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood, and formerly served in many capacities at the church. Nellie formerly worked at a neighborhood grocery in Elwood, and was also known from working at Mangas Cafeteria in Elwood as a cake decorator. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning vegetables, and gardening. She and her husband enjoyed spending many winters in Inverness and Lake Panasoffkee, Florida. Nellie's greatest joy was spending time with her daughter and grandchildren and visiting with her sister and her sister's family.

Nellie's family includes 2 sons, Raymond Faye Hart of Dupont and Bill Hart of Polatka, FL; sister, Becky Dilts of Westfield; daughter-in-law, Susie Hart of Madison; sister-in-law, Julia Roland; many grandchildren including Debbie (husband Ross) Melton of Elwood, Becky (husband Pat) Kane of Elwood, Cathy (husband Dan) Burger of Plainfield, Susan (husband Jim) Abner of Elwood, Greg (wife Kathy) Fettig of Elwood, Jeff (wife Luanne) Fettig of Michigan City, and Andy (wife Megan) Fettig of Elwood, Bonnie Hart, Gina Jenkins, Mindi Hart, Carrie Hart, Jayme Hart, Ray Hart, Jr., Rick Hart, Kim Jameison, Tony Hart, and Bobby Hart; and many great-grandchildren including Brent, Eric, Taylor, Colin (wife Kayla), and Ellie Fettig, Jason (wife Christa), Kyle, John, and Craig Fettig, Elizabeth Melton, Michelle, Kevin, and Jordan Kane, Nick, Carly, and Kristen Burger, Abbey and Thomas Abner, and Jack and Lucy Fettig; and several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fredrick T. Johnson who died
December 5, 1990; daughter Falba J. Fettig and son-in-law, Jack Fettig; son, Jim Hart; granddaughter, Tammy (Hart) Cook; great grandson, Adam Abner; sister, Jo Hickman; brother, Ray Roland; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Hart.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Josh Carney of the First Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
