Obituary

Murice Procter , age 94 and a lifelong resident of the Elwood community, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a sudden illness, and he led a long, full life.  He was born July 21, 1924 in Elwood, the son of Harry D. and Mamie (Carlton) Procter.  He was a 1942 graduate of Frankton High School.  Murice married the love of his life, Anna Usfo, on October 20, 1945 and they shared over 73 years of marriage together.  He was a member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure.  Murice started working and helping on the family farm at the young age of 6 years old.  He remained a lifelong grain farmer and formerly raised livestock earlier in his life.  Murice absolutely loved everything about farming, and he stayed connected to his family farm well beyond his retirement in 1992.  His good friend, Garland Antrim, always included Murice in the latest farm reports, and he enjoyed this very much.  Murice was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Indiana Farmers Union.  He especially enjoyed restoring and collecting antique Farm-All tractors and machinery through the years.  Murice was also skilled at designing and adapting machinery around the farm for various needs.  He enjoyed having numerous pets and animals through the years, and he also enjoyed watching western movies and following politics.  Murice will be remembered as a respected farmer in the community with deep integrity and a man who was truly devoted to all his family.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Murice's family legacy includes his wife, Anna Procter of Elwood; 3 daughters, Jackie Lorensberg of Windfall, Kathryn (husband Gary) Wilson of Elwood, and Deborah (husband Ted) Moser of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, Christina Wilson-Frank, Angela (husband Shannon) Deckard, Lisa Wilson, Brian Lorensberg, Marcus Henderson, and Elizabeth (husband Jarrod) Romine; several great-grandchildren; and special extended family members, Garland Antrim and his family.  Murice was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister who died at birth; son-in-law, Gene Lorensberg; and two step-sisters, Mary Ellen Norris and Jane Morehead.
