Michael E. "Mike" Powell , age 67 of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Harbour Manor Health & Living in Noblesville after an extended illness.  He was born May 11, 1956 in Marion, the son of Dale E. and Elizabeth "Betty" (Hanover) Powell.  Mike was a 1974 graduate of Marion High School and grew up in Grant County.  He worked in maintenance most of his life and last worked for Silver Crest State Hospital in New Albany for nearly 10 years before moving to Elwood in retirement.

Mike loved spending time outdoors – hunting in his younger years, fishing, canoeing, and camping.  He especially enjoyed hunting and collecting arrowheads and hunting mushrooms.  Mike enjoyed a simple life and appreciated time to himself.  He was known for being friendly to everyone he met.  Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike's family includes his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Powell of Elwood; sister, Michelle Powell of Noblesville; niece Taylor (husband Chase) Carl-Meyers; and nephew, Cameron Carl.  He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Powell in 1991 and his brother, Donald Powell in 1986.

A funeral service celebrating Mike's life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Scott Blaylock of Life Church, officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am prior to the funeral on Thursday at the funeral home.  Cremation will follow the services, and burial will take place at a later date in Estates of Serenity Cemetery in Marion.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
