Michael Morris "Mick" Meyer , age 81 of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024 surrounded by his family at home after a short battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 11, 1942 in Elwood, the son of John Robert and Betty (Von Simmonds) Meyer. Betty passed away 11 days after Mick's birth, and later he was blessed with a second mother, Joan Meyer. Mick was a 1961 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood before serving in the Indiana National Guard for 6 years during the Vietnam War. He worked in production at Continental Can Corporation (Crown, Cork, & Seal) for 30 years and retired in 1992. Mick married Suzanne Hamer on July 14, 1972, and they shared nearly 52 years of marriage together. After retirement, he worked in the parts departments at both Hare Chevrolet and the Westfield Kubota dealership.
Mick was a longtime member of the Atlanta Christian Church where he assisted with the church food pantry and served as a deacon of the church. He was also a member of the Steel Workers Union. Mick enjoyed woodworking, and he was well-known for carving and making all sorts Christmas items for family and friends. He was also talented at repairing furniture and especially loved caring for his yard and garden. Mick was known for his great sense of humor and being a prankster. He loved all kinds of animals and formerly enjoyed the company of his beloved cat, Sahara. His family was an important part of his life. Mick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He truly had a servant's heart.
Mick's family legacy includes his wife, Suzanne Meyer of Atlanta; 3 children, Christina Marie (Larry) Brooks of Goshen, Shawn Michael (Tina) Meyer of Longview, Texas, and Tracee Renee (Richard) Allen of Noblesville; 8 siblings, Dan (Cindy) Meyer of Elwood, Sue (Ken) Clouser of Noblesville, Jack (Jane) Meyer of Ohio, Becky (Randy) Robinson of Muncie, Mary (Carl) Kidd of Muncie, Judy Speer of Elwood, Peggy Bryan of Anderson, and Barbara (Don) Pine of Fort Wayne; 5 grandchildren, Lee (Kelsey) Brooks, Katie Bowser, Trevor Allen (Fiancé Regan True), Emma (A.J.) Farber, and Savannah Allen; 4 great-grandchildren, Hailey Bowser, Noah Brooks, Hudson Bowser, and Lane Brooks; brother-in-law, John (Pat) Moser of Elwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mick was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert Meyer, Betty Meyer, and Joan Meyer; and 3 siblings, Gary Meyer, Steven Meyer, and Beth Moser.
A funeral service celebrating Mick's life and legacy will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jody Brown of the Atlanta Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Forrestville Cemetery in rural Summitville. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 to 3 pm prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta Christian Church through the funeral home or the church. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
