Michael Paul
Mengelt
Sep 20, 1977 — Jan 3, 2023
Michael Paul Mengelt , age 45 of Muncie and formerly of Elwood passed away on January 3, 2023. The gates of Heaven opened wide to receive the spirit of Michael Paul Mengelt. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. (Psalm 116:15) Michael was born September 20, 1977 in Elwood, the next-to-youngest child of Dr. Thomas Mengelt and Mary Jane (Tipton) Larrison. He attended Elwood Community High School in the class of 1996 and later attended Ball State University in Muncie where he continued to reside. In high school, Michael was a gifted athlete competing in football, baseball, and track.
His three boys were his delight, and Michael's eyes were always brighter when he was talking about them. In July of 2022, Michael experienced a spiritual rebirth, and all his family and friends celebrated when he was baptized in the White River as an outward demonstration of his inward renewal. He worshiped as a part of the New Norm Church family in Muncie.
Michael is survived by his three sons, Adrian, Ethan, and Elliott all of Muncie; his parents, Dr. Thomas (wife Nancy) Mengelt of Lebanon and Mary Jane (husband Roger) Larrison of Elwood; three siblings, Dr. Cheryl Mengelt (Bob West) of Collierville, TN, Greg (wife Susie) Mengelt of Jeffersonville, and John Mengelt (Cassi Finton) of Greenwood; niece, Chelsea Ervin of Collierville, TN; a nephew, Elijah (wife Trinidy) Mengelt of Gaston; and several aunts and uncles. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Pat Mengelt, John Tipton, and Mary Frances Bell.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home has been entrusted with Michael's arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Norm Church, 1127 S. Madison Street, Muncie, IN 47302. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
