Merril Earnest Julius, age 93 of Anderson, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born December 13, 1920 in Aroma, the son of Lawrence L. and Alice C. (Owen) Julius. "Ernie" retired in 1980 from Delco Remy Corporation in Anderson where he worked in Data & Computer Processing for 39 years. He was a 1938 graduate of Tipton High School. Ernie was also a proud veteran of the United States Army during WWII. He served in Signal Battery C - 379th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the European Theater. Ernie married Ethelyn W. Bryan on July 3, 1948, and they shared nearly 44 years of marriage. He was formerly a member of the Hobbs Christian Church, and was a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge #230 for more than 72 years. Ernie enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR. Above all else, he loved spending time with his beloved grandson, Derek.

Ernie's family includes daughter, Marianne Julius of Anderson; son, Duane (wife Lissa) Julius of Fishers; sister, Mary Weismiller of Tipton; brother, Paul (wife Beverly) Julius of Windfall; grandson, Derek Julius (companion Tim Johnson) of Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethelyn W. Julius who died in 1992; brother, David Julius who died in 1978; and sister Eunice Off who died in 2008.

A funeral service celebrating Ernie's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 2, 2014 at
Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Melissa Grishaw of the Hobbs Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery and will include military honors by the U.S. Army and the Elwood V.F.W. honor guard teams. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the funeral home, and will include a Masonic Memorial Service at 5 PM.
