Obituary

Meredith E. Mock, age 85 of Anderson, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born February 11, 1928 in Elwood, the son of Chester and Leona (Roach) Mock. His mother died at his birth, and his father later married Hester Ebert who raised him as her own son. He retired from General Motors in 1989 where he was a Tool & Die Maker at Delco Remy in Anderson for more than 36 years. He graduated from Summitville High School in 1946, and later completed the General Motors Tool & Die Apprenticeship school. He married Lornell Fleener on December 16, 1950. Meredith served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. Meredith was an active member of the former Rigdon United Methodist Church where he was formerly a Chairman of Trustees. He was a member of the U.A.W. Union #662; a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge in Elwood; and a founding member of the Duck Creek Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Meredith was also formerly an active snowmobiler and was named Snowmobiler of the Year in 1991 by the Indiana Snowmobiler Association. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and reading.

His family includes his wife of more than 62 years, Lornell Mock of Anderson; 2 sons, Don (wife Deb) Mock of Noblesville and Jim (wife Terrye) Mock of West Bloomfield, MI; sister, Harriett Church of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Zach (fiancé Amanda) Mock, Brad (fiancé Sarah) Mock, Emily (fiancé Adam) Mock, Brian (wife Rachel) Johnson, and Chris Johnson; 2 great grandchildren, Kevin Johnson and Autumn Johnson; sister-in-law, Edna Fleener of Elwood; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Carolyn Abplanalp-Starns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Hester (Ebert) Mock; brothers-in-law, Joe Church and Robert Fleener; nephew Logan Church; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Dr. Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forrestville Cemetery in Summitville with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Elwood V.F.W. / American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice through the funeral home.
