Max L.
Coston, Jr.
Nov 26, 1969 — May 9, 2024
Max L. Coston, Jr. , age 54 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2024 at Ascension-St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 26, 1969 in Elwood, the son of Max L. and Sharon K. (Runyan) Coston. Max was a 1989 graduate of Elwood Community High School where he was an accomplished athlete. He was a member of the 1987 football team that went to the State level; was an all-county football player; and achieved honorable-mention in All-CIC Football. Max married Diann M. Stockdale on Nov. 12, 1989 and they shared over 34 years of marriage together. He joined the workforce right out of high school, and he currently worked in production at ELSA Corporation in Elwood for the past 15 years. Max also formerly worked at Var-Chem for 10 years and Kadet Products for 10 years.
Max's love of sports and football continued to his adult life where he was proud to coach Elwood Youth Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Girls Softball. He was a devoted lifelong fan of the Kansas City Chiefs football team, and his funeral celebration will reflect that passion. Max was a member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge and was known of his willingness to help anyone in need. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with all his family. Max was a quiet person most of the time, but had a tremendous sense of humor. His legacy will never be forgotten, and he has been reunited in Heaven with his father who passed away less than a month ago.
Max's family includes his mother, Sharon Coston of Elwood; wife, Diann Coston of Elwood; 3 children, Dylan (Candice) Coston of Frankton, Erika Coston (fiance' Trevor Leming) of Elwood, Logan Coston (Rachel Likes) of Elwood; two brothers, James (Tammy) Coston and Gary (Juliette) Coston all of Alexandria; 2 grandchildren, Cooper and Darrien Coston; and several nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his father, Max Coston, Sr.; granddaughter, Aniyah; and several aunts and uncles.
A funeral service celebrating Max's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Chris Ruder officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral on Tuesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
