Obituary

Max L. Coston , age 77 of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home following an extended illness.  He was born September 10, 1946 in Elwood, the son of Aubrey and Nathalia "Cricket" (Clingenpeel) Coston.  Max was drafted in the United States Army and served during Vietnam.  He retired in 1999 from Delco Remy where he worked in production for 30 years, and formerly worked for Kutche Auto Dealership in Elwood.  Max married the love of his life, Sharon K. Runyan on February 24, 1967 and shared over 57 years of marriage together.  He was a founding member of Alexandria Open Door Church of God.  Max was also a member of the Alexandria Eagles, Elwood V.F.W. #5782, and U.A.W. #662.  He enjoyed being outdoors camping, fishing, and playing golf.  Max liked watching old westerns on television and playing cards with family and friends.  More than anything, Max loved to care for and spend time with his family.

Max's family includes his wife of 57 years, Sharon Coston of Elwood; 3 children, James (wife Tammy) Coston of Alexandria, Max (wife Diann) Coston of Elwood, and Gary (wife Juliette) Coston of Alexandria; 5 grandchildren, Jamie (Zandy) Vautaw, Dylan (wife Candice) Coston, Logan Coston (Rachel Likes), Ethan (wife Cassidy) Douglas, and Erika Coston (Trevor Leming); 3 step grandchildren, Trey Henry, Kason (wife Katie) Waugh, and Dacia Clark (Isaiah Terrell); 6 great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Linda Coston – Shroud; brother-in-law, Leonard Frazee; close friends, Bob (wife Shelly) Croy, Cheryl Gibson, Roy Cooley, and Dustin Rowsell; and several nieces and nephews.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; 4 siblings, Mary (husband Carrol) White, Lester Coston, Jack (wife Dixie) Coston, and Richard (wife Kate) Coston; close friends, Larry Gibson, and Jody Cooley.

A funeral service celebrating Max's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Mike Alley officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Elwood City Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by members of the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.   Memorial contributions are suggested to Alexandria Open Door Church of God or D.A.V. through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
