Mary Jean Hunter, age 85 of rural Atlanta, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2016 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton following a brief illness. She was born July 1, 1930 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of John Henry and Valeria Ione (Ray) Rott, and the family moved to Arcadia when Mary was three years old. She was a devoted Homemaker most of her life, and formerly worked at several area canning companies and Woolworth's Dime Store. Mary was a 1948 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and later married the love of her life, William S. Hunter on April 17, 1949. She was a faithful member of Omega Christian Church in Arcadia, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother for her large family. Mary enjoyed square dancing, singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday School, and attending concerts. She also enjoyed canning, reading mystery novels, watching mystery shows, and was an avid Elvis Presley fan. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Mary's family includes 4 children, John (wife Patty) Hunter of Indianapolis, Jerry (wife Jean) Hunter of Riverside, CA, Joseph Hunter of Tipton, and Janice Hunter of Atlanta; sister, Betty Roop of Noblesville; 12 grandchildren, Brian, Emily, Leah, Jacob, Angela, Carolyn, Michelle, Amber, Katrina, Dustina, Joshua, and Jacob; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 40 years who died June 8, 1989, William S. Hunter; son, Jeff Hunter; and brother, John Rott.

Funeral services celebrating Mary's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Garden Cemetery in Fishers. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
