Mary Margaret
House
May 19, 1926 — Jul 9, 2017
Mary Margaret House, age 91 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Harbour Manor Health and Living Community in Noblesville after a long life. She was born May 19, 1926 in Elwood, the daughter of A. Harold and Eloy (Etchison) Foust. Mary was a 1944 graduate of Frankton High School and later attended International Business College in Fort Wayne. Mary worked at the Howard Webb Insurance Agency in Anderson for several years, and later worked at Anderson College for many years in the business office. She married the love of her life, Joseph L. House on August 24, 1947, and they shared nearly 70 years of marriage together. She was a member of the Aroma United Methodist Church in Aroma for many years and formerly active in the Elwood chapter of Landon Guild for St. Vincent Mercy Hospital. Mary was honored to be presented the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Orr in 1986 for her dedication to volunteer service to the State of Indiana. She especially enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with Joe on many memorable trips. She will be remembered for always having a smile on her face, and was friendly to everyone she met. More than anything, Mary was a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother; and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Mary's family includes her husband, Joseph L. House of Elwood; son, Dr. Jerry (wife Sharon) House of Indianapolis; 4 grandchildren, John House, Katherine House, Brian House, and Julia (husband James) Jay; 2 great-grandchildren, Isabelle House and Elaina House; and a niece and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carol (House) Greenwald in 2012; and sister, Anita M. Woodsides in 2011.
Funeral services celebrating Mary's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral home in Elwood with Rev. Charlie Hoover of the Aroma United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
