Mary Jo Haas, age 76 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following health complications.  She was born June 6, 1940 in Elwood, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Stevens) Haas.  She attended Elwood schools, and was a baptized member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood.  Mary Jo enjoyed walking throughout the community from her home near downtown, and was friendly to everyone she met.  She almost always had a smile on her face, and will be remembered for visiting Parkview Nursing Home almost every day for over 10 years to visit the residents.  She was a special person who will be missed by many people.

Mary Jo's family includes her brother, David (wife Karen) Haas of Elwood and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service celebrating Mary Jo's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Father Dan Duff of St. Joseph Church officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Community Parkview Care Center Activity Fund through the funeral home.  Online condolences may be made to the family at copherfeslermay.com.
