Mary Catherine Amos , age 80 of Elwood, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born July 23, 1941 in Springfield, Kentucky, the daughter of Stanley L. and Dorothy (Lewis) Sallee. Mary married the love of her life Morris G. "Sonny" Amos on November 30, 1958, and they shared over 62 years of marriage together. She was a homemaker all of her life and took great pride in caring for her family. Mary attended Franklin High School and was a former member of the Nazarene Church in Elwood. She enjoyed collecting southwestern items and elephants. Mary especially liked to shop on QVC, play bingo on her phone, and taking care of her garden and flowers. She was a loyal fan of NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. She was also a former fan of the Los Angeles Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts during the Peyton Manning era. Mary enjoyed cooking, gathering for holiday dinners, and getting food from her favorite restaurants like "Arts" roast beef. She had a love for animals and throughout the years she had two special dogs, "Blacky" and "Misty", along with two special birds, "Petey" and "Sadie". Mary was a longtime Elvis Presley fan, but she was even a greater fan of George Jones. She enjoyed spending numerous hours of quality time with her daughter, Patricia, who she lovingly referred to as her "Baby Girl". More than anything, Mary loved spending time with her family.
Mary's family includes her husband, Sonny Amos of Elwood; daughter, Patricia A. Amos of Elwood; 2 grandchildren, Stacey (husband Kenny) Howell of Elwood and Nathan Amos of Elwood; brother, Kenny (wife Becky) Sallee of Elwood; 2 great-grandchildren, Jake Howell and Jaxon Howell; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Stanley Sallee; and sister, Peggy McElfresh.
Per Mary's wishes, cremation was chosen and a memorial celebration will be held at a later date. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home has been entrusted with Mary's funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter through the funeral home. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
