Marvin R.
Tillery
Jul 13, 1949 — Sep 10, 2018
Marvin R. Tillery, age 69 of Elwood, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis following a sudden illness. He was born July 13, 1949 in Richmond, the son of Glendand and Christine (Bennett) Tillery. Marvin served in the United States Army for 15 years, including time during the Vietnam Era. He married the love of his life, Sandra L. "Sandy" Abrams on May 24, 1969, and they spent 48 years of marriage together until her passing earlier this year. Marvin worked as a truck driver for Celadon for 22 years, retiring in 2008. He enjoyed working on cars, and even used to race street stock cars in his early years. Marvin loved his dogs, and always knew what was going on around Elwood. He liked to tell stories, make new friends, and never met a stranger. More than anything, Marvin loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Marvin's family includes 2 sons, James (wife Myra) Tillery of Elwood, and Joe Tillery of Milford; 2 sisters, Pamela Kay Faber of Connersville, and Diane Holliday of Richmond; brother, James Tillery of Richmond; 8 granchildren, Zach Bowyer, Carrolyn Alexander, Marques Tillery, Elizabeth Tillery, Jackson Tillery, Lillian Tillery, Silas Tillery, and Elijah Tillery; 8 great-grandchildren, Anthony Tillery, Kalieya Frazee, Tracy Wiles, Araya Tillery, Devin Durm, Payton Durm, Bentley Bowyer, and Michael Bowyer; and several nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Glendand W. Tillery, and Robert Tillery; grandson, Joshua Tillery in 2018; and wife, Sandra L. "Sandy" Tillery on May 3, 2018.
A funeral service celebrating Marvin's life will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home to help offset unexpected funeral expenses.
