Marvin D. Savage, age 82 of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born November 16, 1931 in Clay County, TN, the son of Walter P. and Abbie E. (Beason) Savage. Marvin was a machine repairman for Jefferson-Smurfit Company for 42 years and retired in 1994. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Marvin married Martha L. (Padfield) Majors on April 9, 1960. He was an avid fisherman and formerly enjoyed rabbit hunting. He loved working outdoors in his yard, camping, and was extremely interested in politics. Marvin was a very family oriented man and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Marvin's family includes his wife of 53 years, Martha L. Savage of Elwood; 6 children, Morris R. (wife Jan) Savage of Anderson, Rick Savage of Anderson, Mike (wife Connie) Majors of Elwood, Ron (wife Micky) Majors of Elwood, Lisa (husband Hassan) Aamoun of Elwood, and Mark Savage of Elwood; 4 siblings, Imadean Rhoades of Nashville, TN, Lucy (husband Vic) Wilborn of Livingston, TN, Roger (wife Belle) Savage of Florida, and Dulene Hummel of Livingston, TN; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Royce Savage, Gene Savage, Harold Savage, and Argil Savage.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Sister Rosie Coughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood, and will include Military Honors conducted at the graveside. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry through the funeral home.
