Obituary

Marjorie Myerly, age 86 of Elwood, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Anderson after a period of declining health. She was born October 10, 1925 in Elwood, the daughter of Delbert and Lenna (Waymire) Cochran. She was a devoted homemaker and farm wife all of her life. She was a 1943 graduate of Elwood High School. She married Howard Newby Myerly in 1945. Marjorie was a devoted member of the East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood where she was the last living descendant of the 5 founding families of the church. As a member of the church, she was also the memorial flower coordinator, former church board member, and deaconess at the church. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital since 1973 and was an active member and past president of the Landon Guild of St. Vincent Mercy Hospital. She was a life member and past president of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, and a member and past recording secretary of D.A.C. – Daughters of American Colonists. Marjorie enjoyed nature, gardening, sewing, playing piano and organ, and especially enjoyed the fellowship she had with her sorority sisters, guild sisters, and hospital volunteer co-workers. She loved her farm and spending time at her home on the farm, which has been in her family for five generations. Marjorie truly treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Janet (husband Frank) Burrows of Anderson, and Alice Myerly of Winter Park, Colorado; 2 grandchildren, Kyle H. Heath of Menlo Park, California, and Kathryn M. Heath of Louisville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Kathleen Hartzler, and Annabelle Swackhammer; and former husband of 46 years, Howard Newby Myerly in 2004.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. The St. Vincent Mercy Hospital Volunteers will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 PM followed by a Sigma Phi Gamma memorial at 7:15 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Landon Guild of St. Vincent Mercy Hospital or Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority through the funeral home.
