Marion J. Kelley, age 77 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Community Hospital in Anderson following complications from lung cancer. She was born October 12, 1939 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Leo and Hannah Bertog. Marion retired in 2014 from the Elwood K-Mart Store where she worked for over 7 years as the shoe department lead person and stock lead person. Prior to that, she worked for Marsh Supermarket in Elwood in the cake decorating and bakery department for many years. Marion married John Leo Kelley on December 29, 1960, and they shared over 34 years of marriage together. She was a former member of the Elwood Church of God, member of the Order of Eastern Star in Alexandria, and a committee member for the Relay for Life program. She especially enjoyed crafting and listening to Elvis Presley music. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and her family.
Marion's surviving legacy includes a daughter, Kathy (husband Mark) Gillam of Elwood; son, Mike (wife Amber) Kelley of Anderson; 3 step-children, John Kelley of Anderson, Debbie (husband Joe) Hancock of Elwood, and Dan (wife Lea Anne) Kelley of Dacula, GA; sister, Ann Gerren of Conneaut, OH; 17 grandchildren, Jonathan Mort, Joshua Mort, Melissa Webster, David Kelley, Tyler Creamer, Jason Hilligoss, Erin Byers, John Kelley, Tiffany Kelley, Donovan Kelley, Dakota Felton, Nevaeh Felton, Jessica Short, Brian Gillam, Brad Gillam, Ashley Hobbs, and Melodi Smith; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, John Leo Kelley in 1995; and baby brother, Sonny Bertog.
A funeral service celebrating Marion's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Bill Johnston of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Thursday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
