Obituary

Marguerite D. Stickler, age 104 of Elwood, passed away in her sleep on Monday evening, April 2, 2018 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following long, well-lived life.  She was born on October 8, 1913 in Wabash County, the daughter of Homer and Vesta (Brane) Kendall.  Marguerite worked for the Elwood YMCA with the ABC Nursery School as a babysitter for several years and teacher's aide for many years.  She had a special love for children.  Marguerite married Harold L. Stickler on June 5, 1948, and they shared over 43 years of marriage together until his passing in 1992.  Marguerite was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood, where she was formerly active in the Super Seniors Group and the Quilting Group for many years.  She was also a member a local Home Extension Club which she enjoyed very much.  Despite losing her eyesight later in life, Marguerite was content with living in the nursing home, and stayed as active as she could with facility activities.

Marguerite's family includes brother, Nevin Kendall of Bluffton; sister, Jane Boyer of Wabash; close friends from church, Janet & Ralph Trowbridge of Muncie and Mavis & Joe Barnett of Elwood; friend and caretaker, Ethel Morris of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.  Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Stickler; 3 brothers, Kenneth Kendall, Merrill Kendall, and Isac Kendall.

A funeral service celebrating Marguerite's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Bill Johnston of Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood, officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 prior to the funeral at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
