Obituary

Margaret B. Tyner, age 98 and formerly a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Bridgewater Healthcare Center in Carmel following a long and vibrant life.  She was born September 8, 1919 in Elwood, the daughter of Otis and Ferald (Smith) Bebee, and grew up on her family's small farm and nursery outside of Orestes.  Margaret was a 1937 graduate of Elwood High School.  During WWII, she began working in local factories including Continental Can in Elwood and Delco Remy in Anderson where she was a proud member of the AFL-CIO Union.  After the war, Margaret married Charles William Tyner, and he died in 2010.  Margaret had an entrepreneurial spirit and invested in real estate in both Indiana and Florida.  In the 1990's, she lived in North Fort Meyers, Florida during the winter months, but always returned to Elwood – the place she called "home".  Margaret was smart, funny, tenacious, and worked hard her entire life to support her family and friends.

Margaret's surviving family includes 3 children, Kathleen Tyner of Austin, TX, Mary Ann Bangs of Carmel, and Terry Tyner of Chicago, IL; 4 grandchildren, Brooke Pence, Laura Pence Callies, Lauren Bangs, and Samuel Bangs; and 5 great-grandchildren.  Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Trudy Tyner in 1994; 3 siblings, Martha Bebee, Bruce Bebee, and Bobby Bebee; and former husband, Charles Tyner.

Following cremation, a memorial service for Margaret will be held at a later date.  Burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Foundation for the Blind (www.afb.org).
