Obituary

Margaret D. Stephens, age 86 of Anderson, passed away at her residence on Saturday, December 9, 2017 following an extended illness and a long, full life.  She was born on July 30, 1931 in Flintstone, Georgia, the daughter of William E. and Goldie (Johnson) Davis, Sr.  Margaret worked in production at Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson for over 30 years and retired in 1991.  She attended Frankton Schools, and later married the love of her life, Verlon R. Stephens on August 27, 1955.  They shared over 62 years of marriage together.  Margaret was a member of the Anderson Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family – especially her grandchildren.  She and Verlon formerly enjoyed square dancing for many years; playing cards with their friends who were known as the "six pack"; spending summers at their cottage on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky; and boating on Lake Santee in southern Indiana.  She especially enjoyed reading books about the LDS church.  More than anything, Margaret was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Margaret's family legacy includes her husband, Verlon R. Stephens of Anderson; 2 daughters, Brenda Hildebrandt (Steve Hess) of Noblesville and Melinda (husband Dr. Lee) Sredzinski of Indianapolis; brother, Jerry Davis of Tennessee; sister, Geraldine Stephens of Arizona; 3 grandchildren, Justin C. (wife Carly) Vest, John Brian (fiancé Emily) Hildebrandt, and Rachelle Hildebrandt; a great-granddaughter, Meleah Vest; and several nieces and nephews.  Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, William E. Davis, Jr., James Ray Davis, Mac Davis, and Larry Carl Davis; and 2 sisters, Juanita Cornwell, and Estelle Green.

A funeral service celebrating Margaret's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Brother Doug Beamer and Brother Kenny Anderson of the LDS Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service on Saturday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Anderson Ward of Latter Day Saints Church through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
