Margaret R. "Maggie" Romine, N.P. , age 72 of Anderson and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024 at Community Hospital in Anderson after several health complications.  She was born Aug. 7, 1951 in Scottsville, Kentucky, the daughter of Jack and Ruenelle (Marshall) Perkins.  Maggie was a 1969 graduate of Madison-Heights High School.  She received a diploma in nursing from General Hospital; a Bachelor's degree in nursing from Ball State University; a Master's degree in nursing administration from Indiana University; and finally a Nurse Practitioner's degree in family medicine from Indiana University.  Maggie married her soulmate, David E. Romine, on June 12, 1971, and they shared 52 years of marriage together.  Maggie worked as a Nurse Practitioner at Elwood Family Medicine (with Dr. Robert Helm) for many years.  She had also worked as an N.P. for Greentown Healthcare before her retirement in 2014.  Maggie absolutely loved nursing and caring for her patients until she could not physically continue to work.

Maggie formerly attended East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood.  She was a member of the American Nursing Association (ANA) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).  Maggie enjoyed reading, hiking, cooking, and baking sour-dough bread for her family.  She and David formerly enjoyed traveling, taking numerous cabin trips, and spending time with animals.  Maggie never knew a stranger and never hesitated to help others in need.  Her faith and her family were the most important aspects of her life.  Maggie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Maggie's family includes her husband, David Romine of Anderson; daughter, Cathy (Raphael) Starr of Elwood; son, James (Laney) Romine of Indianapolis; two siblings, Betty (Earl C.) Spurlock of Russelville, KY and Jackie Perkins of Scottsville, KY; 6 beloved grandchildren, Mia (husband Dietrich) Ney, Molly, Maddy, William, and Ben Romine, and Ian Hamilton; brother-in-law, Jerry (Sandy) Romine; and several nieces and nephews.  Maggie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Hogue.

A funeral service celebrating Maggie's life and legacy will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with her son-in-law, Pastor Raphael Starr, officiating.  A Nursing Honor Guard Ceremony will start the service.  Cremation will follow the service.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 to 2 pm prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
