Obituary

Margaret A. Brewer , age 88 of Dade City, Florida and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Sept. 15, 2024 at Gulfside-Rucki Hospice Center in Florida after a long, full life.  She was born July 11, 1936 in Kempton, the daughter of Samuel and Viola "Frances" (Thompson) Switzer.  Margaret was a 1954 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.  She married her soulmate, Charles C. Brewer on June 11, 1954, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2024.  Margaret was an accomplished seamstress and longtime owner of the Elwood Fabric Center in the former T-Way plaza.  She also formerly worked at Crimans Insurance Agency immediately after high school and later Klumps Paint Store.

Margaret was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher for kindergarten age children.  She also worked on the funeral dinner committee for many years.  Margaret and Charles were formerly active in bowling leagues in Elwood at Wells Lanes for many years.  Sewing was Margaret's favorite pastime, but caring for her family was the greatest joy of her life.  She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Margaret's family includes her husband, Charles Brewer of Florida; two daughters, Julie Ann Croussore of Dade City, FL and Joy Annette Watson of Anderson; 2 sisters, Phyllis Sparks of Dade City, FL and Joan (Ken) Reid of Winston-Salem, NC; 6 grandchildren, Sam (Liz) Hall of Indianapolis, Walter Eric (Elisha) Hall III of Chesterfield, Christopher Shane (Danie) Hall of Spokane, WA, Quytin Lewis of San Antonio, TX, Kaleb Charles Lewis of Indianapolis, and Cameron Lee (Megan) Lewis of Pendleton; 3 great-grandchildren, Jordan Hall, Colt Hall, and Rogue Hall; and several nieces and nephews.  Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; 3 children, Darryl F. Brewer, Keith C. Brewer, and Denise E. Brewer; sister, Shirley Fjeld; great-grandson, Lane Hall; and son-in-law, David Croussore.

A funeral service celebrating Margaret's life will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Tim Becker officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Autism Foundation.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
