Marcheta Carolyn Mort, age 85 of Elwood, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following an extended illness. She was born on June 30, 1927 in the Seymour area, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Barrett) Dennis. She retired in May of 1990 from the Anderson Mattress Factory where she had worked for 21 years. She was a graduate of Silver Grove High School in Silver Grove, Kentucky. She married Frederick Robert Mort, Sr. on June 28, 1947. She was an avid Indiana Pacers basketball fan. She also enjoyed playing cards – especially "Hand and Foot"; and enjoyed playing bingo. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
Her family includes 3 children, Frederick R. Mort, Jr. (wife Pam) of Elwood, Carolyn E. (husband Dennis) Longnecker of Elwood, and Rhonda Jo (husband Mark) Sullivan of Elwood; sister, Wilma McDonald of Silver Grove, KY; 6 beloved grandchildren, Laurie DeLong of Elwood, Kim (husband Dan) Marley of Elwood, Kellie (husband Jason) Ballman of Elwood, Casey Longnecker stationed in Afghanistan, Mark Sullivan, Jr. of Elwood, and Amber Sullivan of Elwood; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild expected in June of 2013; and several nieces and nephews.
Marcheta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick R. Mort, Sr. who passed away in 1991; 2 brothers, Robert Dennis and Walter Dennis; and 3 sisters, Jean DeMoss, Loranell Croy, and Genevieve Mahaney.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Elwood. Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the Alzheimer's Association.
