Obituary

Lula M. Kelly , age 92 of Fishers and formerly a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Bridgewater Healthcare in Carmel following an extended illness.  She was born February 26, 1927 in Elwood, the daughter of Leroy and Margaret (Burke) Ballard.  Lula was a 1945 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.  She married William Charles Kelly, Sr., on January 16, 1946, and they shared over 59 years of marriage until his passing in 2005.  In addition to raising four children, she worked for General Motors both at Guide Lamp in Anderson and later retiring from Delco Radio in Kokomo in 1974 after 20 years of combined service.  Lula was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood where her children attended St. Joseph School.  She was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union and formerly a Girl Scout Leader when her children were young.  Lula was an avid fan of Notre Dame and Indianapolis Colts football.  She formerly enjoyed ceramics, painting, flower gardening, cooking, and baking for her family.  She was devoted to all her family and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.  Her family is comforted knowing she is reunited with her husband in Heaven.

Lula's family includes four children, Susan Weddell of Indianapolis, William C. "Bill" Kelly, Jr. of Elwood, Margaret (husband John) Melson of Tequesta, FL, and Mary (husband Dan) Overman of Fishers; sister, Jeannette Toney of Pendleton; 5 beloved grandchildren, Brandon (wife Allie) Melson, John Kelly Melson, Drew Weddell, Patrick (wife Autumn) Weddell, and Collin Weddell; 3 beloved great-grandchildren, Connor, Audrey, and Abby; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kelly of Walkerton; and several nieces and nephews.  Lula was preceded in death by both her parents; husband, William Charles Kelly, Sr.; 3 brothers, Howard Ballard, Robert Ballard, and Ed Ballard; and 2 sisters, Margaret Durr and Patricia Jackson.

A funeral service celebrating Lula's life will be conducted at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Father Dan Duff officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral on Wednesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
