Lucille McKnight, age 91 of Elwood, died December 14, 2011 at Westminster Village in Muncie following a brief illness. She was born August 9, 1920 in Elwood, Indiana - the daughter of Clarence and Doris (Smith) Monroe. She and her husband were owners of McKnight's Farm Equipment Store – a longtime family business in Elwood. Lucille was a 1938 graduate of Elwood High School. She married Phil H. McKnight on October 28, 1939. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood and an active member of the Elwood Landon Guild for many years. She served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Elwood for over 30 years and continued this service until recently. She truly enjoyed helping others.
Survivors include: Nephews – David (Karen) Monroe, Steve (Elaine) Marlow, Randy Marlow, James (Debra) Cassity, Jerry (Diana) Cassity, Bradley (Christine) Cassity, Thomas (Virginia) Tatum, and William (Marti) Tatum; Nieces – Linda Monroe, Mindy (Jerry) DeVaney, Melissa (Steve) Swanson, and Janet (Jack) Schimmel; Special Friends – John & Clara Updike and William & Betty Caldwell and their families; God-Daughter – Amy Caldwell-Hoffman of Richmond.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 71 years who died May 28, 2011 - Phil H. McKnight; sisters – Jean (husband Ralph) Cassity and Margaret (husband Jack) Marlow; Brother – George (wife Helen) Monroe; and Half Sister – Marjorie (husband Bennett) Lamb.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, 1500 North A Street, Elwood with the Rev. Chris Dare officiating. There will be a Mercy Hospital Volunteer dedication at the start of the memorial service. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Sunday prior to the memorial service at the church.
