Obituary

Lowell Sherman Bain , age 93 of Carmel and former pastor of the Curtisville and Omega Christian Churches, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024 at Ascension-St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after a long, well-lived life.  He was born May 10, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Gorman L. and Nova E. (Ewing) Bain.  Lowell and his brother, David, grew up in Maywood, Illinois, and he later graduated from Wabash (Indiana) High School in 1949.  He married Joy Burgan on Dec. 26, 1951 while attending Johnson Bible College and serving as pastor of the Hubbard Springs Christian church in Virginia.  Lowell and Joy had six children – Carron, Cindy, Christy, Jeffrey, Cathy, Cheryl.  He was ordained to the Christian ministry by the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ on June 1, 1952.  Lowell pastored at churches in North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, Indiana, and Arkansas.

Lowell and his family moved back to Wabash where he became bi-vocational minister working for the Ford Meter Box Co. while serving the Curtisville Christian Church from 1953 to 1963.  He subsequently worked for Ex-Cello Corporation in Elwood from 1956 to 1969 while serving the Omega Christian Church from 1963 to 1973.  Lowell graduated in 1974 from Indiana University with an M.B.A. and completed graduate work.  Their family moved to Batesville, Arkansas in 1974 where Lowell served the Flippin, Arkansas Church of Christ followed by five years as Assistant Minister of Batesville United Methodist Church while also working for General Tire & Rubber Co.  He later worked at Bailey Mfg., Standard Mfg., and Plastech Corporation, holding numerous managerial positions in the U.S. retiring in 2005 at age 74.  Lowell led over 100 revivals throughout his ministry both preaching and singing.

Lowell married Linda (Huffman) Holloway, a native of Elwood, on March 22, 1985 in Wynne, Arkansas.  They have one son together, Matthew.  Linda also has three children, Kent, Kevin, and Cindy.  Lowell's blended family was more important than anything in his life, and he loved nothing more than spending time with family.  He also enjoyed singing, hunting (notably the 1967 Montana elk hunt), fishing, and photography in his free time.  Lowell built several houses in Indiana, Arkansas, and New Hampshire.  His legacy of faith in and service to the Lord Jesus will live on and never be forgotten.
