Obituary

Lorrie Ann Jones , age 72, lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born September 2, 1952 in Elwood to John and Juanita (Sykora) Welcher.

Lorrie was a 1970 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. While in high school, Lorrie was a majorette and a feature twirler in the Elwood Panther Band. During her time as a majorette with the Elwood Panther Band, Lorrie participated in the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade as a freshman and was a member of the Panther Band that placed 4th in the Indiana State Fair Band competition during her sophomore year. Lorrie was a gifted baton twirler who won several individual national baton twirling competitions. She was also a member of Tudy's Dynamics, a baton twirling corp who also won a number of national baton twirling competitions throughout her youth.

Lorrie started dating the love of her life and soulmate, Terry Jones, in the summer of 1969. They were married on November 14, 1970.

Lorrie taught first grade in the Elwood Community School system for 15 years, retiring in 1995 when she joined her husband in their home business with E'OLA International, a weight loss and health supplement company out of St. George, Utah. Lorrie and her husband traveled throughout Mid-West building one of the company's top organizations that became the largest organization in the company east of the Rockies.

Lorrie was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed being outdoors and loved keeping the birds and squirrels fed in her backyard. Lorrie was a avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved the play-by-play announcing of Harry Caray. She was also overjoyed with the Cubs 2016 World Series Championship. Lorrie was also a fan of the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts.

After the passing of their first grandchild, Casidy, Lorrie and her husband became involved with the Indiana S.I.D.S. Center in Indianapolis. The center focused on teaching safe sleeping habits for babies and sponsored "Beds for Babies", which provided safe sleeping beds for families in need.

Lorrie liked to crochet and cross stitch. She especially loved to read, as she was a frequent customer of the Elwood Public Library. Lorrie loved the beach where she spent many vacations with her husband. More than anything, Lorrie loved her family and was an incredibly proud grandmother.

Lorrie's family includes her beloved husband of 54 years, Terry Jones of Elwood; daughter, Katie (Karl) Hopper of Noblesville; son, Mick (Jessica) Jones of Elwood; 2 brothers, Richard Welcher of Indianapolis, and John (Stephanie) Welcher of Anderson, SC; 7 grandchildren, Caleb Jones, Jenna (Zach) Johnson, Chelsea Jones, Luke Jones (Stacey Gillam), Madison Hopper, Blaise Jones, and Zac (Megan) Hopper; 4 great-grandchildren, Brynley Jones, Maycee VanMatre, Rozlynn Hopper, Wade Hopper; and several nieces and nephews. Lorrie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lynnette Greenfield; and granddaughter, Casidy Jones

Lorrie's wishes were to be cremated and have no formal services at this time. Her family will plan a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the American Lung Association. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home is honored to handle Lorrie's arrangements.
