Lois "Jean"
Webb
Apr 5, 1943 — Jan 15, 2026
Lois Jean Webb , age 82, a lifelong resident of Elwood, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood. She was born April 5, 1943 in Spencer, the daughter of Harry Edwards and Ina "Lois" E. (Greenwood) Darling. At the age of 5, her family moved to Elwood where she was lovingly raised. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Jean was a member of the Church of Christ in Elwood, where her strong spiritual presence touched the lives of all who knew her. Her faith was not merely professed but lived out daily through acts of compassion, service, and unconditional love.
Jean graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1961 and pursued her calling in education at Ball State University, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees. She began her teaching career at Edgewood Elementary School before transferring to Indianapolis Public Schools, where she taught 5th grade for over 25 years. Jean didn't simply teach her students—she nurtured them, believed in them, and loved them as her own. She went above and beyond to ensure each child felt valued and cared for, often reaching into her own pocket and heart to meet their needs. Her classroom was a place of learning, laughter, and grace, and her influence extended far beyond academic lessons into the very hearts of the children she served.
Jean's compassionate spirit extended to all of God's creatures. An avid animal lover, she dedicated herself to rescuing animals and finding them loving homes. Even in her final days, she faithfully cared for numerous feral cats, ensuring they had warm shelter and full bellies—a testament to her generous and nurturing heart. Her love for family ran deep. Jean was always ready to help in any way possible, demonstrating Christ-like servanthood by caring for her own mother during her final stages of life. On June 19, 2011, she married William "Willie" Webb, and together they shared many blessed years and memorable trips to Florida until his passing. Jean was passionate about exploring her heritage and culture, always eager to learn and grow. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now one of the Angels watching over them.
Jean is survived by many family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie Webb; brother, Bob Edwards; 2 sisters, June Nance-Cunningham, and Jane Sparks; brother-in-law, Dan Nance; and niece, Amber Lea Nance.
A graveside funeral service honoring Jean's life will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Jean's funeral arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
