Obituary

Lisa Dawn Arbuckle , age 53 and a person of deep faith in the Lord, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at I.U. West Hospital in Avon following health challenges and a sudden illness.  She was born August 9, 1971 in Elwood to Kevin Chriss and Clare (Williams) Chriss.  She was the beloved wife and 30-year soul mate of Stephen Shawn Arbuckle whom she married on September 16, 1995 after dating since 1992.  Lisa graduated from Elwood Community High School in 1989, and one of her passions in high school was serving as yearbook editor under Mrs. Paquin.  Lisa earned her Bachelor's degree in Human Resources from Ball State University in Muncie and later graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Masters of Science degree in management.  She worked as a valuable and respected human resources recruiter at St. Francis Hospital System in Indianapolis for 12 years and retired in 2012 due to complications related to Lupus and kidney failure.  Lisa's health challenges were unexpected and difficult, but they were more than rivaled by her faith, determination, and remarkable fighting spirit.  She navigated serious health issues while always helping others and greeting everyone with her signature, beautiful smile.

Lisa's life was centered around God's word and her family.  She was a longtime, active member of the Plainfield Christian Church where she assisted the church with recruiting staff members and teaching Sunday School classes.  A beautiful testimony from Lisa was featured by her church and is available at www.plainfieldchristian.com. (under tabs "Watch – Quick Links – Share your story – The Arbuckles")  When Lisa had free time, she found tremendous joy in scrapbooking and caring for all her family. In 2020, Lisa sadly lost her eyesight, but this enormous setback didn't stop her sharing her faith and encouragement to others through an ongoing telephone ministry to her church family and others in the community.  Lisa and Shawn enjoyed camping for many years together and were devoted to spending time with their beloved daughter, Abby.  Although the world has lost a very special person, Heaven has gained a dear soul who has been reunited with many family members.

Lisa's family includes her husband, Shawn Arbuckle of Avon; daughter, Abby Arbuckle (boyfriend Shaun Phares) of Avon; mother, Clare (David) Charles of Avon; step-mother, Mary Chriss of Carmel; two brothers, David (Devon) Chriss of Pittsburgh, PA and Scott Chriss of Brooklyn, NY; uncle, Craig (Ginger) Chriss of Elwood; great aunts, Carolyn Johnson and Lois McCormick; and 2nd cousin, Judy Johnson (Bill Nichols) of Cincinnati, OH.  Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Kevin Chriss and beloved grandparents, Jack and Shirley Chriss.

A funeral service celebrating Lisa's life and faith will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Plainfield Christian Church – 800 Dan Jones Road, Plainfield, IN 46168 with Pastor Steve White officiating.  Visitation will take place prior to the funeral from 12 to 3 pm at the church.  Burial will take place on Friday, June 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Memorial contributions may be made to Sheltering Wings (Womens Shelter), 1251 Sycamore Lane, Danville, Indiana 46122.  Envelopes will also be available at the church on Thursday.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
